Tim Berners-Lee
Founder of the World Wide Web
Tim Berners-Lee is a computer scientist who invented the World Wide Web in 1990. He is also the director of the World Wide Web Consortium, which oversees the development of the Web.
Berners-Lee was born in London, England, in 1955. He studied physics at Oxford University and then worked as a software engineer at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research.
In 1990, Berners-Lee developed the first web browser, which he called WorldWideWeb. He also developed the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), which are the foundation of the Web.
The Web is for everyone.
Berners-Lee has been recognized for his work with numerous awards, including the Turing Award, the highest award in computer science.
